Are you worried your child isn't ready for kindergarten? You're not alone. While many parents focus on teaching academic skills, I've discovered through years of consulting with teachers and families that five-year-olds often struggle with something more fundamental: the social and emotional skills needed to thrive in a classroom environment.

This episode introduces my Kindergarten Boot Camp, an innovative eight-week virtual program designed to help children develop these crucial skills before school begins. Through two live Zoom sessions and weekly content delivered straight to your inbox, you'll learn practical strategies to help your child develop emotional regulation, social skills, and classroom adaptability. We'll tackle the real challenges kindergartners face – sitting still during story time, taking turns with peers, managing frustration, and following classroom routines.

Why does this matter? Because children with strong social-emotional foundations transition more smoothly into kindergarten, build better relationships with teachers and peers, and position themselves for academic success. At just $27 for the full program (with scholarships available for families in need), this boot camp represents an investment in your child's confidence and classroom readiness. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, or caregiver of an incoming kindergartner, this program provides the structure and support you need to make this summer count. Join our community of families preparing their little ones for this important milestone – registration is now open for our June 1st kickoff session! Have questions? Speaker 1:

Hey listener, welcome back. I'm your host, dr Beth Trammell. Just a quick episode this morning. Wasn't Liana's episode from last week so good? I felt like I learned so much, even though I've been in the field for a long time. Discernment counseling was something that I hadn't really known much about, and the work that I have done with parents in the past who have been going through divorce I can just imagine how helpful that could be, and so hopefully it was an interesting kind of new thing for you, and if you were in the camp that you might want to seek out those services, I'd encourage you to reach out to Liana. Even if she can't help you, she may be able to point you in the right direction. So this coming week we have Kendall Tyson back and she is coming on to talk about her experiences abroad and how coming back from being abroad really impacts her or has impacted her, and there were just so many nuggets in there that I was just really appreciative that Kendall came to share her story. But really she also explored this sort of lens around understanding the biopsychosocial model through a culturally sensitive place and how really culture permeates everything we do, and so you can't really separate those things, and so it was just such an enlightening conversation, so I hope you enjoy that.

Speaker 1:

This Friday I wanted to share a little bit about the kindergarten boot camp that I have been talking about on social media. My hope is that you might find someone in your life that you can invite to be a part of boot camp. I'm realizing that the work that I'm doing in early childhood training teachers, doing consultation, talking with parents our little ones, our five-year-olds, are just really. They just need more practice, friends. They just need more practice and learning those social skills, those play skills, the emotion regulation skills, the ability to tolerate things that they don't really love happening in their world. Like you know, I want to play, and my teacher in kindergarten is going to want me to sit and listen to a story or sit and work at a table or something like that, and so what I've realized is it's tricky to get parents to commit to doing parent training, though a lot of them would admit. Like I need help, I don't know what to do, and so I've created an eight-week virtual boot camp that will include two live Zoom sessions where I'm going to leave space for a question and answer, but really the focus is going to be on all of those social emotional skills right those things that are going to get them ready to be in a kindergarten classroom. And so we're going to start the first live session on June 1st, and that session will be really focused on how do we help parents set themselves up for success, to be able to teach these skills throughout the summer. So we're going to talk about behavior planning and how it works and how we can get kids to be bought in, to be motivated to work on these skills this summer and then, week after week, we have a variety of different skills that they will be working on. So essentially, what happens is we go to the first kickoff together, we talk about behavior planning and then from there, week after week, parents will get content in their inbox on Sunday evening. That will be kind of their goal for the week, and so I'll have a video explaining what the goal is, maybe some resources that go along with that, and then a goal sheet that goes along with the content for that week.

Speaker 1:

The cost of the session, the cost of the eight-week boot camp, is $27. I've tried to set that to be something that is achievable for most families and also I have thought about offering it for free, but often there has to be some sort of cost associated, right? Folks have to value kind of putting their financial resources to something rather than it just being free, and people sign up and then don't actually do the work or even show up for the work. So if the $27 is an obstacle for you or someone you know, please reach out. Beth at makewordsmatterforgoodcom, I have some folks who have offered to provide scholarships for families that want to sign up but can't afford the $27. So please reach out. If you're a person who would like to sponsor a family for this, please also reach out. We would always welcome folks to be able to donate $27 for a family in need who could then also take part in this workshop.

Speaker 1:

So the first kickoff is June 1st. We hope that we can get. I'm actually I have this big, audacious goal to have 200 families enrolled in boot camp. I have seen the need. I know the need is there. Obviously we have a lot of families locally, but also this can be nationwide. So the first Zoom session is at 7 30 on June 1st and then after that the second Zoom, live Zoom, will be June 29th at the same time, and then, as I mentioned, in between, there'll be content videos that come to the inbox. So if you know a family, could you invite them to join. If you are a family, I hope you make the bold step to make things better. I am grateful for you, listener. I'm grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside families like you, and if you have questions, please feel free to reach out Beth at MakeWordsMatterForGoodcom. Ciao.
